LG and Samsung Duke it Out Over This Must Have iPad 3 Feature - With all the criticism that give Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL), no one can deny that (at least for now) the iPad 2 tablet is overcome. But as with the iPhone, to keep consumers coming back for more, each updated version of the device must offer something fresh.
For the IPAD 2, all he did was a faster processor, a pair of cameras and a slimmer design to ignite a buying frenzy. Despite these features should have been included in the original device, retailers can not meet demand.
I do not expect Apple to get away with retaining features for ipad 3 release, however. Android tablets not to flood the mass market this year.
And that includes the most glaring omission of IPAD 2 Release - the display of the retina. As reported by DigiTimes, Apple went with LG (NYSE: LPL) and Samsung LCD displays instead.
Fortunately for Apple, both companies have developed new high resolution screen for tablets, which are showing in this week's SID Display Week 2011 in Los Angeles.
This time, however, I do not see Apple going with the two suppliers. Here's why.
The Battle of the pixels: Round 1
The main selling point behind the retina sample with a resolution so high that the human eye (almost) can not see the pixels at all. 4 If you have an iPhone, you know what I mean.
But so far, have not been available in sizes suitable for Tablet PCs.
Samsung and LG did not use the word "retina" in its advertisements of advanced displays. LG joked "ultra-high resolution" screen with a Samsung developed a screen resolution of 2560 x 1600 "more pixels ... which can be recognized by the human eye at a typical distance. "- Twice the IPAD 2 - which is on par with the display of the retina.
The thing is that LG displays the various measures, including the size of the iPad, 9.7 inches. Namely Samsung announced a 10.1-inch screen. Of course, that does not mean that Samsung is working on different sizes. But it's definitely a point of LG at this time.
Also, do not forget that Apple and Samsung are currently in a game of pushing patent litigation. (Which, as I noted recently, could force apple to change the Samsung processor (Intel Nasdaq:. INTC))
And then there's the fact that LG is already a trusted supplier retina display, as technology designed for the iPhone 4.
So, with three points from LG and Samsung postal code is a done deal right? I would not be so sure. IPAD 2 Is your bleeding?
You see, DigiTimes claims that some LG-IPAD made two screens are slight bleeding around the outer edges of the screen. And readers of Engadget backed the findings. Some returned several times the tablet, only to see the problem again.
One commentator wrote: "IPAD I had three 2s and all had bleeding problems." Another asked: "My IPAD 2 is bleeding a lot here, anyone has a team of transfusion?" As a result, DigiTimes says that LG "is forced to reduce its shipments in the first quarter due to the problem of leakage of light."
Thus, while Samsung closed the transfer of 4 million units, LG fell short of 3.2 million euros. This means that design snafu LG is at least partly to blame for the supply crisis IPAD 2, too. Not good.
Despite the reports, LG fixed the bug and plans to resume shipments to apple in the second quarter, the damage is done. After all, if I had to choose between a small legal dispute and a hardware failure that resulted in a shortage of 800,000 units (or $ 400 million in sales), the legal fight has my vote.
